Framlingham College’s Senior and Prep Schools have received glowing inspection reports from the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI). The most recent full reports for both schools (2015: full inspection; 2018: Regulatory Compliance inspection) can be found below.
The 2018 reports were from Regulatory Compliance (only) inspections. I am delighted to report that both schools were judged to be fully compliant, meeting all the standards required. As this was a compliance inspection, we were not being inspected on the quality of education or teaching and learning this time, in part due to the ‘Excellent’ rating that the College enjoyed in these areas in our last ‘full’ (Education and Compliance) inspection in 2015 (also below). Please note that the language used in the 2018 report is therefore very prescriptive and does not contain any value judgements (eg. ‘Excellent’; ‘Good’), and there is no overall rating of the school. The standards of compliance that they set are simply either ‘met’ or ‘not met’.
The 2015 full reports found that both schools are successful in their aim to ‘provide a holistic, high quality education with strong pastoral care that encourages pupils to aim high in their academic studies and co-curricular activities’.
‘Excellent’ schools
Independent schools no longer have separate Ofsted inspections and there is no overall rating given to the school, but the College was adjudged to be ‘excellent’ on all the key areas of school life: teaching, learning, achievement, co-curricular provision and achievement, pastoral care and the pupils’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
The Senior School and Sixth Form received particular praise for the quality of the ‘excellent’ teaching and learning at the school. The report noted that ‘relationships between pupils and teachers are of the highest quality’ and that the ‘standard of personal development is exceptionally high’, describing the pupils as being ‘open and friendly to all, creating an excellent atmosphere within the school’.
Our Prep School was praised for its ‘excellent’ pastoral care and for the opportunities it provides for personal development. The report also noted the ‘excellent experience’ enjoyed by pupils under our flexible boarding arrangements.
The pupils were seen to have ‘highly positive attitudes towards learning’, with leavers receiving ‘many awards and scholarships, both academic and those that reflect their attainment in areas such as sport, music and the performing arts’.
Headmaster’s reaction
Framlingham College Headmaster Paul Taylor said ‘We are so pleased that the inspectors picked up on the forward looking and dynamic environment of both the College and the Prep School.’
He continued, ‘We’re particularly proud of how impressed they were with our pupils’ open, friendly manner and the sense of engagement that they have with all aspects of school life. We are a school that aims to develop the whole child and not just the examination candidate, and their affirmation that we do both so effectively was very welcome’.
