Year 7 are currently undertaking a two week local history project about Brandeston. We started the unit by walking around the village, learning about key buildings and prominent people from the past. The village sign tells the gruesome tale of John Lowes, the village vicar in 1600s, who was accused of witchcraft and hung in Bury St Edmunds after 50 years of service. We also learnt about the amount of traders and businesses which used to be in the village in the Victorian era. Pupils have written creative accounts of life in the village, using photographs and anecdotes to illustrate their tales. In the coming weeks, we will have a detailed look at the church and find out about the interesting history of Brandeston Hall itself.
