Our Year 4 pupils recently visited the Anglo Saxon village of West Stow, near Bury St Edmunds.

We were greeted by curator and resident Anglo Saxon experts Jo and Dougal. Firstly, the group set off for the museum where we looked at Saxon artefacts and saw the magnificent helmet from Sutton Hoo and other interesting finds. A lucky few tried on replica helmets and cloaks. Once we had a quick question and answer session we were sorted into our four groups; Angles, Saxons, Jutes and Picts.

After lunch we explored the village and the fascinating buildings that made West Stow (west special place). Every building had a story to tell about the rich history of Anglo Saxons. The whole experience at West Stow was wonderful for the children as it gave them the opportunity to see, feel and hear Anglo Saxon life and for them to really develop a real sense of History.

As ever the Brandeston Hall boys and girls were full of questions and answers and were fabulous ambassadors for the school.
