Year 10 biologists have been investigating guard cells in plants today.
Guard cells are specialised cells in the epidermis of leaves, stems and other organs that are used to control gas exchange. They are produced in pairs with a gap between them that forms a stomatal pore.
The Year 10 students, in our lessons this morning, undertook a stomatal print with some wonderful results as can be seen by the attached photos. Many students in the class were able to produce high standard stomatal prints which really helped with their understanding of how these cells work.
