The Framlingham College Prep School U13 girls hockey team travelled to Cambridge University Sports Ground yesterday to take part in their IAPS East of England Championships, playing against 20 of the best hockey playing schools in the region. Expectations were running high as the girls are current IAPS National U13 Champions and the FCPS U11 girls were crowned IAPS East of England Champions on Monday.

The girls played some super hockey in their group games, with wins over Gresham’s Prep (3-0), Kingshott(3-0), Old Buckenham Hall (3-2), and Town Close (4-0); meaning they topped the group on maximum points.

Knowing that a place at national finals was at stake for the top 4 teams, the quarter final match was crucial. Framlingham were drawn against an excellent Beeston Hall side and it proved to be a very even contest. With the scores level at 2-2 in normal time, and even after five minutes of golden goal, neither side were able to break the deadlock. This meant the game were to be decided by penalty flicks, with Framlingham winning this tense affair 3-2.

The girls then really stepped up in the semi-final v Langley Prep at Taverham Hall winning 3-0. This meant a final v Northampton High School, where the girls played some eye-catching hockey to win 4-0.

This fine achievement means that both the Framlingham College U11 and U13 girls are IAPS regional champions. The U13 girls go to the IAPS National Finals for a third year in succession, having won the Finals at Millfield last year. A very special achievement.
