Year 12 Fine Artists explored the Royal Academy blockbuster Klimt/Schiele Drawings. The RA was at full capacity as we jostled to view the glowing gouache outlines of Schiele’s gaunt figures to the beauty of the sinuous lines offered by Klimt. Artists were drawn to the female form for its allure and visceral mystery. Klimt/Schiele’s drawings gave us food for thought when approaching the model in our life drawing sessions. Tate Britain and Edward Burne-Jones alternatively gave us a taste for opulence. The rich burgundy reds, glistening golds drew us into the paintings on an overwhelming scale. Narratives were explored from the biblical and mythological, Burne-Jones often including the faces of friends and family. Just beginning to explore the figure and narrative our fine artists were left marvelling at the possibilities open to them.
