Whilst the UK was being lashed by storm after storm over half term 31 Prep school pupils in years 6-8 headed off to the beautiful sunny Austrian Alps for a week’s fabulous skiing.

We skied in 4 different resorts: Saalbach, Hinterglemm, Kaprun and Zell am See and covered many kilometres of pistes. 20 beginners made incredible progress and went from the starter slopes to descending the whole mountain as well as experiencing the views from almost 3000m on the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. The advanced skiers skied all the black runs including the infamous Black Mamba and the Trass Pass.

The snow was top quality with light powder and even a dramatic blizzard one afternoon. Joyful Elfi was our host at the beautiful chalet, set at the end of the valley in a picture post card setting.

The children watched top speed racing in the centre of Saalbach witnessing the World Cup Super G Championships.

In the evening the children went sledging followed by a warming, wholesome Austrian meal with classics like Weiner Snitzel and Kaiserschmarrn. After dinner, our fantastic rep Detective Constable Lizzie Brazier enthralled the children with her talk on life in the police force and working with police dogs. We finished the week with a creative and hard fought dorm singing competition – teachers firmly in last place and year 6/7 girls the worthy victors.

The children were a credit to the school and a pleasure to take away. A massive thanks to the staff, Mr Cullum, Miss de Podesta and Miss Wimmer for all their hard work.
