Tallulah Torrance was awarded first place and Niall Pearson-Shaul was the runner-up in the third Framlingham College Year 11 English Literature Essay Prize.

The competition was set up partly as a response to the removal of coursework from GCSE English; the students read a piece of classic literature by Charles Dickens or Robert Louis Stevenson and then write a first draft of an essay over the summer break. They then produced a final version in the Autumn term of Year 11. Both Tallulah and Niall wrote about Stevenson’s ‘Edinburgh Picturesque’ and they received some book vouchers in addition to the kudos of being the top two. Daniel Butler, Aasta Hamilton-Wright and Toby Lindley were Highly Commended for their essays – and the quality overall was very high indeed.
