Good morning!

This wasn’t exactly how I envisaged ending my second term as Principal at Framlingham College. But it just shows that you never know what is round the corner. Having said that, of all the things that might have been lurking round the corner, I wasn’t expecting this.

So, I want you to do something for me now. I want you to look around you – at the people around you, at the beautiful surroundings we are standing in, at the castle, at the school buildings, at Albert behind me. This is your school, made up of all these different parts and it is an integral part of who you are.

When you are young, school is as much a part of your life as having breakfast, walking the dog, watching Netflix. School defines the rhythms of your year, it is an integral part of who you are and who you will become. It matters, it is very important.

And when we are faced with the possibility of losing something that matters to us so much – albeit temporarily – it hurts. And that is how I feel right now.

But, this is where we are and we must go our separate ways. We must therefore work hard, as I have said before, at staying in contact with each other. You will hear from me – like it or not! – and you will hear from Rev B, from your tutors, your teachers and you will stay in touch with each other. This is very important. And remember, you are Framlinghamians and as such you must uphold the values that we stand for, whether together or apart. Be kind, be caring, be thoughtful and sensitive to the feelings and circumstances of others. Look after yourselves and others.

And, we will be back. Of course, we will and what a party we will have when we are!

And then we are going to have the biggest Easter Egg hunt you’ve ever had!
