By: Lucy Collishaw, Head of Netball

On Saturday 25th January, our U19 and U14 Netball teams travelled down to Stanborough School to compete at the East Regional Netball Finals, having qualified before Christmas at the Suffolk netball finals.

U14s:

The girls began their campaign with a somewhat shaky start.  However they soon began to play some brilliant netball and went on to beat Norwich School, Samuel Whitbread and St Clere’s.  The girls narrowly missed out on a Semi-Final spot.  This was a fantastic team effort with some outstanding play from Lou Lou F, Alicia P and Natasha R.  The future is bright for this team.

U19s:

Wow! What a day for this team.  After a great start beating Stephen Perse Foundation, the girls went on to beat Gresham’s and Brentwood.  Losing to St Edmunds’ College (the eventual U19 Regional Winners) , the girls were placed 2nd in their group and secured a Semi-Final spot against Felsted.
The girls were outstanding in the Semi-Final, with such narrow margins being the difference between the loss and a place at National Finals. One turnover ball, meant Felsted converted and then scored. 11-9 the final score.
We then played Bishop Stortford High School in the 3rd- 4th place game. A thrilling match ended 9-9 at the end of regular play, so extra time followed. This then ended 11-11, so the match went to golden goal with nothing separating the two teams. Sadly, they were the first to score!   A game of such narrow margins with only 3 goals between 4th place and going to Nationals!

Congratulations to all squad members:  Millie F, Emma W, Amelia S, Rita G, Eliza B, Polly H, Millie C, Mini D and Charlotte M.

It goes without saying that netball is going from strength to strength at the College. We are a School that competes exceptionally well in our local area. I am striving to ensure we work relentlessly towards success in the wider netballing region. I have no doubt that with the talent and work ethic we have, the girls will soon begin to reap the rewards.
