On Sunday 12thMay, 11 Framlingham College athletes competed in the Suffolk Athletic Association Track and Field Championship. The events were held at Northgate Stadium on a day of glorious sunshine.
Competing a year young, Yr 6 Artemis Wild was first up in the U13 Girls High Jump. A daunting challenge as, whilst not directly competing against them, she was jumping alongside athletes much older and much taller than she was. Artemis came away with the Silver Medal after jumping 1.10m. Artemis then went on to achieve another Silver Medal in the Long Jump and a Bronze Medal in the 100m. Other Year 6 Athletes included Mia North (Bronze 800m) and Harry Cartwright, who managed to record a PB of 6m12s in a very tough U13 1500m.
Our three Year 7 Athletes performed well at the top of their age group. Ben Currie ran a strong 1500m (PB 5m17s); Dan North obtained a Bronze Medal in the 800m and Toby Jackson managed a fantastic hall of Gold Medals, and is now County Champion at Hurdles, Discus and Shot Put.
Similar to our Year 6 Athletes, our Year 8s also compete a year young in their U15 age group. Archie Will performed valiantly in both the Shot Putt and Discus events; James Laurie came 4thin the Shot Putt and Javelin competitions; Alice Verebelyi made it through the 100m Heats and came an impressive 4thin the Final; Freddie Powell also competed in Discus and Shot Put events, collecting a Bronze in the latter; and finally, Fred Lamprell competed in the Discus, High Jump and Long Jump, managing to achieve two Bronze medals in the jump events.
The Prep School athletes were also joined by Yr 9 pupil Will Lamprell, competing in the U15 Shot Put, High Jump and Discus. Will won Gold in all three events and in the Shot event he made history by breaking the County all time record which had stood for 25 years.
Congratulations to all those who gave up their Sunday to take part, a promising start to the season!
