The Lower Sixth English Society met to ponder some examples of 17th century poetry selected by Mr Goldsmith.
After an introductory lecture on the Cavalier and Metaphysical schools of 17th century poetry from Mr Goldsmith, Year 12 students worked in pairs to discuss and annotate poems by writers such as Carew, Herrick and Marvell. After some snacks, they then presented back to the whole group, picking up on the overlapping conventions of these fascinating genres. Best pair in the end were Rosa and Edona – but everyone was absorbed and eloquent.
