The 2nd Scholars’ lecture of the year saw pupils exploring mathematical group theory.

Led by UEA Maths Phd candidate, Carl-Fredrik Nyborg Brodda, 60 students from the Academic Scholars’ Programme and some invited A Level Mathematics students took part in a special session on group theory.

Carl-Fredrik was an engaging speaker and had the participants donning (rather than doffing) hats and stickers to help them work out a ‘mind-swap’ problem popularised by the TV series ‘Futurama’.

It was really interesting to see high ability students (including non-Maths students) grappling with something well outside the GCSE and A Level courses – a thought-provoking and challenging evening.
