Lots and lots of children were involved in the recent FCPS Spring Concert.
Funky Monkeys opened with ‘Ain’t Necessarily So’ played in a very funky style with improvised solos from Archie Will and Charlie Hall. Junior Vocals performed next with cool arrangement of A Spoonful of Sugar, Shotgun and a number from Sing Up!, Drop in the Ocean.
The Ukulele Group played themes from Offenbach’s ‘Orpheus in the Underworld’. The string group played three pieces with a great sound and obvious enthusiasm. Girls vocals had worked hard to conquer their three pieces starting with an easy ‘For the beauty of the earth’ and then some quite tricky harmonies in the Three Spirituals and Jar of Hearts. The Scholars’ Ensemble gave a beautiful performance of ‘The Favourite’ by Paisible – very cool to play a piece that mirrored the film awards this week but no-one knew if it was included in the film.
Lastly the orchestra played two medleys with music from Aida by Verdi and “Les Mis’. A great concert with much enthusiasm from the players and singers and the audience loved it. The concert demonstrated what can be done by children with busy lives who make time to get on and prepare properly for the musical part of their existence.
