On Thursday 15th June, Year 10 students Ana, Bella, Will and Rufus represented Framlingham College at the Eastern Regional French Debating Competition at The Perse School in Cambridge.
We enjoyed some ‘al fresco’ dining at Café Rouge en route in order to soak up a bit of French ambience and courage before the competition. Our students conscientiously prepared their arguments in French, both for and against the three motions up for debate in recent weeks. Competing against six other schools they argued the relative merits of life in the countryside versus city life, holidays with family versus holidays with friends and whether mobile phones should be banned in school. Whilst some other students relied heavily on their notes, our students were praised for their spontaneity and ability to respond to challenges from the opposition.
Helen Giles, Teacher of Modern Languages said: “I was most impressed with their performances, speaking French under pressure and in front of an audience. Well done!”
