We have been attending the Track and Field Championships at Bedford for over 15 years, but I cannot remember one with such challenging conditions as we had this year. Storm Miguel brought very wet sessions throughout the day. However the 30 FCPS pupils braved the elements to compete against 52 other schools. Out of the 40 events they took part in, over half produced personal best results.
New specifications in some disciplines meant that Heather Alabaster, Joe Slater, Toby Jackson, Harry Cartwright and Rafa Sedeno set new school records. Alongside these, the other notable performances were Fred Powell (U14 Discus), Rafa Sedeno (U12 Shot) and Artemis Wild (U12 Hurdles) who all came 4th in their event. Sofia Odiz came third in the U12 100m, missing out on a place at the Nationals by 4/10s of a second.
However we did maintain our impressive representation at the Nationals through the Lamprell family! Fred came second in the U14 High Jump, whilst sister Jess, competing a year young, was crowned regional champion in the U12 Shot Put. The pair will go to the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on the 1st July to compete again the best of the rest of the country – good luck!
