As part of our PSHE programme, Years 10 and 12 got to attend a presentation given by Bob Tait of Drug Education UK.
Bob is a key member of the presentation team, whose core business is to focus on delivering structured primary substance misuse prevention and early intervention education to education establishments and industry. He raises awareness on a wide variety of substance misuse issues using audio-visual techniques and an abundance of energy and enthusiasm to support his inter-active presentations. Based on our experience he certainly captured his audience’s attention.
Discussions covered what a drug is and how misuse creates problems. This progressed to risk taking, situations and choices. He also covered types of substances and their short and long term effects including so called ‘legal highs’. Why schools and employers have a drug and alcohol policy and the role of drug testing was debated. Bob closed with the law and recent changes to it; including the impact a drug related criminal record can have on careers and overseas travel.
