This year’s CSI day once again saw the demise of the fictional ‘Mr Tinker’ of ‘Saxtead College’ and Year 9 students worked off-timetable for a day to try to find out the culprit.

The day presented the year group with some fascinating challenges: codebreaking from information on a USB stick, translating a letter written in French, analysing audio files and transcripts and then coming up with some theories that were tested in the science laboratories. All the time, students had to update their written logs, ready to submit their findings at the end of the day. The students had a lot of fun but will admit that the pressures of working in unfamiliar groups, persevering with difficult problems and having to work independently with no teacher help made it a challenging but satisfying day.
