On Thursday 12th April I arrived at Norwich University of the Arts to view the inaugural “Beyond the Frame” exhibition featuring photographs, by students 14-18 from a nationwide submissions.
We were all treated to three amazing lectures by the judges. All are professional photographers; Denisa Ilie’s beautiful portraiture and fashion photography, Carol Sharp’s exquisite still life and nature imagery and Tim Flach’s humanising of endangered species inspired us all and enticed us with anticipation of what they might have selected on the theme of “Environment”. On display in NUA’s top floor the 40 chosen images, from the 500 submitted, ranged from portraiture, landscape, still life, abstract, documentary and digital trickery. Albert Gittus, now studying Photography endorsed title for Art and Design GCSE was lucky enough to have an image selected. His image of an almost symmetrical landscape reflected in still water was also featured in the broadcast on Look East later in the day.
