Over sixty students attended this year’s Academic Scholars’ Dinner on 27 January and the highlight of a terrific evening was undoubtedly the address by Lord Smith, Master of Pembroke College, Cambridge, and a former Cabinet Minister under the Blair government.

Arguably the most compelling point made by Lord Smith was that the study of English Literature is the best preparation for a career in public office. The evening also included captivating vocal and instrumental performances from Helena Galley (Year 12), Jack Gionis (Year 13) and Jemma Crossley (Year 12).
