On Friday 16th November, fifteen Year 7 and 8 students visited Seckford Hall for an evening with Anthony Horowitz – one of the most prolific and successful writers currently working in the UK. He has written over 40 books including the bestselling ‘Alex Rider’ series. During a question and answer session, our students asked some pertinent questions about his influences and how he uses Suffolk settings in his novels.
The most interesting comment Horowitz made was about the importance of children reading great stories and losing themselves in imaginary worlds. He described a book as being like a door into this imaginary world full of secrets and mysteries that we must solve. At the end of the evening, Horowitz signed the children’s books with personalised messages. It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and I am sure that Horowitz has inspired our students to read more of his stories and perhaps even try their hand at writing their own novel!
