At Framlingham, we are interested in uncovering genuine scholarliness. We want our Scholars to demonstrate excellence and commitment, curiosity and a spirit of inquiry. We are looking for a genuine hunger to develop knowledge and understanding, and a willingness to promote the joy to be found in learning different skills. Scholarships at Framlingham College are highly sought after because of the outstanding pathways that we provide for our Scholars. These pathways offer opportunities for mentoring, enrichment and extension in all fields. We challenge our Scholars and encourage them to question the status quo. We instil in them a profound sense of purpose and whole-hearted commitment. In return we expect our Scholars to push themselves as far they can go, to set the example, inspire others and be ambassadors for the College in all that they do.
Applications for 11+, 13+ and 16+ awards are welcomed from pupils currently studying at both state and independent schools. Scholarships are based on interviews, performance and assessment. Applicants should be motivated by the opportunities for development that are available through the individual pathways. It is an honour to be selected as a Scholar. The financial award that accompanies a Scholarship will be a maximum of 10% remission off our fees. However, we believe in widening access to a Framlingham education and we do not believe that a family’s finances should restrict a young person’s opportunity to develop as a Scholar. For Scholars who are in financial need, our annually means tested bursary support is available and we would encourage families to enquire further about this where relevant. Although not expected, a number of parents are now waiving the Scholarship financial award altogether. In such cases, we will always use this as an opportunity to increase our bursary provision.
In order to ensure that our Scholars are fulfilling the expectations that we have of them, the quality of their performance is constantly monitored. Parents will receive regular updates from the Head of the relevant Pathway and all Scholars are reviewed annually. Should a Scholar be falling short of our expectations, parents would be informed, and the Scholar would be given an opportunity to rectify the situation. If this did not happen, the Scholarship would be withdrawn at the start of the following academic year. However, it will be very rare that a Scholarship is removed as it is our expectation that the vast majority of Scholars will thrive under the inspirational leadership, support and guidance of provided by their Pathway Head.
It is a wonderful thing if a child has talent, ambition and a hunger to develop further. At Framlingham, we provide the right environment for these talents to flourish and we are delighted, every year, to welcome new Scholars to the College.
