We started at Ipswich Wetdock where we looked at the land use at the marina. Then we boarded The Lady Orwell for an hour’s cruise on the Orwell to learn about the history of the area and study the physical features of the mouth of the river. Pupils were fascinated by the lock and by the scale of the Orwell Bridge as we sailed close by.

Afterwards, we headed over to Needham Lakes where we spent time observing the river and taking measurements near the Old Flour Mill at Alder Carr Farm. Pupils got in the water to measure depth, width, veocity and pH levels of the water. The day was very enjoyable and Year 6 excelled themselves, showing motivation and interest throughout.
