Ogden Partnership School

Fram College Physics Department is proud to have joined with local schools to form a partnership, sponsored by the Ogden Trust, to promote Physics. This involves a number of exciting events over the course of the year targeting different year groups and promoting gender equality.

As part of the partnership we recently hosted a workshop for teachers and technicians on the use of dataloggers in experimental work, which was run by Breckland Scientific.

In addition, earlier this week, two teams of Year 9 students went to Thomas Mills High School to give their presentations highlighting the Physics behind everyday phenomena.

The Pembroke Steminists, Amy Spaull and Emma Williamson, armed with a piece of string, explained how the GPS system, which most of us will find on our phones, enables us to answer the question ‘Where on Earth am I?!’

Team Rendlesham, Harry Hook, Joseph Lewis and Josh Little, pointed out the significance of expansion in engineering for things like overhead cables and railway tracks. With the help of a jug of water and some ice cubes we were told how the odd expansion of water enables fish to survive in ponds during winter.
