The Senior School campus of Framlingham College has two all-weather floodlit Astro-turf pitches, which can be hired for playing football, hockey, netball and tennis. We also have hard courts for tennis and netball, and fields for cricket, football and rugby.
The facilities within our own sports centre, Fram Leisure, are also available for hire – including our 20-metre indoor swimming pool and our sports hall.
Each August, the Framlingham Lawn Tennis Tournament happens on the grassy swathes of the Back (17 tennis courts) that’s at the heart of the College campus, and on the Astro-turf pitches (12 courts).
Our sports facilities have been used extensively by a number of organisations including Northampton Saints, Suffolk Hockey, Suffolk County Cricket Club and East of England Elite Netball.
Filming
The Senior School campus of the College sits at the heart of the beautiful, vibrant yet historic market town of Framlingham, in Suffolk. Both are ideal for filming, as is much of the surrounding area.
Pre-dating its mention in the Domesday Book of 1086, the town is perhaps most famous for its 12th-century castle. This magnificent monument occupies a hill on one side of the town’s mere; our own beautiful site is on top of the rise opposite.
Founded in 1864, the Albert Memorial College (as it was known) was built in honour of Queen Victoria’s husband Albert. Even today, a statue of the Prince Consort takes pride of place at the front of the main building, which retains its mock-Gothic façade. The extensive grounds result from a 17th-century legacy linking Framlingham with Pembroke College, Cambridge.
Fram College’s buildings have been updated over the years, of course – not least with the completion of a new Sixth Form Centre, and a College Café, in 2014. The official opening of these facilities marked the school’s celebration of its 150th Anniversary.
Framlingham is just a few miles from Suffolk’s Heritage Coast – embracing Aldeburgh and Southwold, amongst other seaside locations. The town and the beautiful countryside close by featured in the recent BBC production “The Detectorists.”
Framlingham is about 35-minutes by car from the county town of Ipswich, from where there are regular trains to London’s Liverpool Street station. London Stansted Airport and Norwich Airport are each just over an hour’s drive away from Framlingham.
