College girls triumph in cliffhanger against Norwich

Framlingham College U18 girls beat Norwich School in the National Aberdare Cup at Norwich School yesterday. Against two 3.2 rated players, Florence McCausland and India Ball battled hard but were outplayed in both the first and second singles, and 1st doubles rubbers.

Flora McWhirter however, made light work of her singles at no.4. Therefore Framlingham needed a strong performance from Abby Gooderham at 3, also against a higher rated opponent. With strong serving when it mattered most, she did not disappoint with a clever 6-4, 6-4 victory. 2-3 down in rubbers with just the 2nd doubles on court, Flora and Abby came through a tricky encounter 7-6, 6-4 to take the match into a first to 10-point shootout.

Up stepped India and Abby and once again showed what a formidable partnership they are, with a commanding 10-5 victory to win the tie.
