A Shakespeare Performance to Remember Forever

Shakespeare on the Terrace

Written by Polly Atkin, Dan North, Thea Wilson and Mim Marvell

Year 6 pupils recently put on their Shakespeare performance in the grounds of FCPS for all to see. This was a truly momentous occasion for us.

This term our English lessons had been dedicated to learning about the Shakespearean language and the background behind the two plays we were to perform – Julius Caesar and As you like it. Due to the fact the plays were both to be set in different parts of India we researched the Dharavi slums [located in Mumbai, India] and life there. As well as this, the year group had a Bhangra dancing workshop to teach them some of the moves and music used in Indian culture for example in Bollywood movies.

Production was a tough week for everyone as many of us found the going tough and as the big day drew closer the sun got hotter and hotter.
Eventually the performance was upon us and everyone; children and teachers alike, were nervous. After many tireless weeks of work all of the effort and determination driving the project paid off. It was a splendid night to treasure in our memories and we would love to do it again. We would like finish by saying thank Miss Stark, Mrs Cullum, Mrs Moon and everyone else involved for making this experience possible.
