St Michael's Church, Framlingham
Review
Grandeur, splendour and ceremony combined in St Michael's glorious church in Framlingham for our annual Summer Concert, which was held in May. The fiery opening of Monteverdi's 1610 Vespers set the tone for an evening journeying through music history, featuring Purcell's Chacony, Ravel's Pavane, Elgar's Cello Concerto, played exquisitely by Imogen Webb, and Carwithen's Suffolk Suite, composed for the College in 1964. Thanks were given for the visiting music staff, and also for academic colleagues who devote time, skill and humour to making music at the College.
The Choir delivered a full-bodied rendition of sections of Handel's Messiah, tackling his nuances with aplomb; the Choir gave unanimous support to the soloists, College students Imogen Webb, Olivia Castle, Rosie Bullen, Alex Dunham and Lewis Myers-Allen, who performed the arias with particular grace and skill. Trumpets, horns, drums and voices combined to have all on their feet for the uplifting Hallelujah, which sent spirits soaring and hearts heavenwards.
